Report: Alberta Population Projection

Alberta Treasury Board and Finance looks forward to 2041.

The long-term population projections for Alberta and its census divisions were updated in July 2014. Produced annually, the current projection covers the period from 2014 to 2041 and tells us some interesting details about our future selves.

In 2041, Alberta’s projected population will:

• number around 6.2 million, an increase of roughly 2.2 million people from 2013

• be older, with a median age of almost 41 years, up from about 36 years today

• be increasingly diverse, as people continue to migrate to the province from the rest of the country and around the world

• be even more concentrated in urban centres, especially along the Edmonton‐Calgary corridor
